in Okanogan Country. We have a wide diversity in landscape and climate
that attracts birds to our area. Our numerous lakes and rivers attract
waterfowl and shorebirds. The high deserts and alpine meadows attract
a variety of songbirds and upland birds. So whatever type of birding
you like, Okanogan country has it for you.

viewing opportunities:
MVSTA Suspension Bridge in Mazama- From Hwy 20 at milepost 184.9,
turn north onto Goat Creek Dr. 3.7 miles. Turn left into parking lot.
Similkameen Wildlife Refuge - SE of Conconully from Okanogan
Sinlahekin Wildlife Refuge - deer and mountain goat habitat;
game headquarters located south of Loomis.
Driscoll Island - bird sanctuary, bald eagles, beaver, muskrats,
nesting site for waterfowl; confluence of the Similikameen & Okanogan
rivers; 1 mile south of Oroville just before the bridge, - look for
sign on left going north.
Alta
Lake State Park - From Hwy 153 at milepost 1.5, turn west onto
Alta Lake Rd; drive 2.2 miles to parking.
Cassimar Bar Wildlife Area - Brewster. From Hwy 97 milepost 264.6,
turn south onto Cassimer Bar Access Rd; drive 0.4 mile, turn right onto
Cassimer Bar Rd, continue 0.5 mile to parking.
Rufus
Woods Lake - 51 miles long above Chief Joseph Dam; mule & white-tailed
deer, black bear, coyote, beaver, waterfowl, raptors & upland game birds.
Perch poles for eagles & goose nesting tubs along shoreline
Curlew
Lake State Park - osprey nests & wildlife.
Grand Coulee
Dam & Steamboat
Rock State Park: bald eagle viewing & festivals
Lake Roosevelt
National Recreation Area - bald eagle, black bear, elk, bobcat,
deer, osprey, raptors, Canada geese, waterfowl

nest in the Okanogan area.
The things a serious birder needs when heading out in the
field: A good field guide of birds in the area;
a pair of binoculars to see the birds close up; and the
ability to move slowly and quietly so not to disturb their
quarry.
